The Ramen Bowl

There is nothing easier than having a soup-based treat for a first camping day meal, especially if it's a Ramen Bowl. A ramen meal can meet all camp needs; it can be vegan or meat-based.
It can be filled with foods from roadside farm stand, especially fresh vegetables, and herbs.

So take the Ramen Bowl into the campground.

Keep it Simple

Every camper is different but the basics for a ramen bowl is this,
the noodles, the broth
and the bowl.

Prep Work

Create base broths from scratch or purchase store-bought vegetable, chicken, or vegan stocks; you can even use water and season up the base with spices and herbs. Look at different options for your taste regarding broth.

Ramen noodles are best but go with spaghettini or thin spaghetti if you like a richer noodle. Do not cook ahead of time. Instead, let the ramen soak up the flavors of the broth.

Eggs can be hard-boiled, cooled, and stored.

Cook chicken, beef, or pork; this is perfect for leftovers from the night before-store in airtight containers.

You can pre-cook any veggies ahead of time and store in airtight containers just remember to warm up not cook when adding to ramen pot.

Stop by the fruit and veggie stands along the way for fresh local in-season vegetables like cabbage, spinach, mushrooms, and bok choi.
Look for extras like bell peppers, zucchini, carrots, and broccoli.

Don't forget fresh ginger, mint, coriander, or cilantro.

The best thing about a ramen bowl is it can be anything you want it to be; add broth, noodles, vegetables, meats, leafy greens, beans, mushrooms, herbs, spices-garnish with hard-boiled eggs, a squeeze of fresh lime juice with a drizzle of spicy hot chili oil to bring in the heat!

This is a great one pot meal

Add noodles to broth to cook; this goes pretty quick, so keep an eye on the cooking pot-plan to have at least one package of noodles per person. Once noodles have cooked, place a portion of the noodles into bowls for each person, you can use a strainer or tongs-cover bowls with a cloth or paper towels to keep warm. Camp note: discard the seasoned package that comes with the noodles and use fresh ingredients.
Keep broth on the heat-if you need to add extra broth or water to base do so now. Add seasonings, veggies and meats if any, in order of their warming up or cooking times.
This dish can skip the salt if soy sauce is the primary seasoning.
Seasonings: Soy sauce, pepper, pepper flakes, curry powder, and grated fresh ginger are wonderful flavors, along with turmeric and lots of garlic.

Add veggies and meats to the bowls with noodles on the bottom

Top with hard boil egg, then slowly fill the bowl with remaining broth—add fresh coriander or cilantro and a single mint leaf.

Garnish with a squeeze of lime.

For easy camping style: Bring packets instead of bottles of mustard, hot sauce and soy sauce for each individual setting.

Don’t forget the chop sticks!
