Camp Secrets

Cabin Get-a-Way

There are times when getting out into nature is a cabin's best friend.

Bishop Creek Lodge Bishop, California

The High Country

Bishop Creek Lodge 9,290 feet, is one of our favorite secrets. The 12 cabins tucked alongside South Lake Road is our treasure. Each cabin has a basic layout with bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. The kitchen has the basics, and outside there is a table, grill, and fire pit. They supply WiFi but no telephone signal. There is a camp store, restaurant, and bar but check for the days and hours. The lodge is a family, pet-friendly get-a-way that we should keep to ourselves, but it is so lovely when we visit we just had to put it into our Camp Secrets.

Please note: Bishop Creek Lodge is at altitude, take it easy on the first day. Move around at an easy pace. Cooking takes longer so plan accordingly, perfect time for that First Night Meal.

From Bishop Creek Lodge, you can explore all that Bishop Creek has to offer. Lakes, streams, photography, hiking, sleeping, is all there for the taking. If you're lucky, the wildlife may stop by for a visit.

Bishop Creek Lodge-The perfect California rustic cabins. Almost like staying in a campground.

Please note: If you are looking for luxury accommodations this is not for you, no television or room service, bring your own pillows.

Check dates it closes for the winter months.

The River House

A fabulous surprise!

Kernville, California

Kern River Valley

The River House is a fantastic home on a quiet street on the Kern River in Kernville. It is a two-bedroom, one-bath home with a cabin-like feel. The views are extraordinary, with the river and mountainscapes as a backdrop; you couldn’t ask for anything more. Pets welcomed.

Check out Road Trip To Kernville for more on the Kern River Valley.

“Where did you get the Tiki Torches?”

Campground Lighting: Tiki Torches light up the campsite. They come in a broad range of sizes, coverings, and looks, but one thing is indisputable, the campground loves them. Once you put them out, be ready to start the conversation. We have had ours for years and use them both at home and in the campground. You can find them at Amazon, camp websites and home stores. Easy to pack and bring along and perfect for a campground setting.
