Mammoth Campgrounds
There is nothing better than an empty campground.
We found this range of campsites by accident. Tent camping at Yosemite, we decided to cut our camp trip short to search quieter campgrounds, stopping for a visit with a friend working at the Curry Village. He was living in one of the cabins in the park. He had two giant pet rats with free rein of the household, but we took up his offer to stay there. It was fun discovering the park's wilderness from a first-hand point of view, but there were just too many people. How we ended up finding this scenic rest stop was a map. We love maps and to say that the Devils Postpile National Monument pulled us in is an understatement. So now, every year after the 4th of July, we head up to the valley.
